Simona Mihai trained in the UK, where she attended the European Opera Centre, the Royal College of Music,London, and the Benjamin Britten International Opera School as a Queen Mother Scholar. She was awarded the Rosemary Bugden Junior Fellowship and the David Bowerman Junior Fellowship at the RCM and is a Samling Foundation Scholar.
She began her career as a 18-year-old lead at the European Opera Centre, then as a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, going on to sing leading roles for Glyndebourne, the Salzburger Landestheater, Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Teatro La Scala, Milan, and Teatro Massimo, Palermo.
She is the recipient of numerous Prizes, including First Prize at the Takasaky International Competition in Japan; the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary for Young Singers; the Maggie Teyte Scholarship; the Miriam Licette Prize; the National Mozart Competition; and the Clonter Opera Prize.
A renowned recitalist and orchestral artist, Simona has performed with renowned conductors including Fabio Luisi, Sir Antonio Pappano, Evelino Pidò, Daniele Rustioni, Robin Ticciati, and Emmanuel Villaume.
Recent engagements have included Micaëla Carmen for Opera Australia; Massenet’s Manon at The Israeli Operaand Opera Wrocławska; Countess Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro for The Grange Festival; Mimì La Bohème for Ópera de Oviedo; Mimì and Musetta La Bohème for The Royal Opera House, London; Giulietta Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Bayerische Staatsoper; and Agnes Sorèl the Maid of The Orleans at Theater an der Wien.
Her recordings include Musetta in the Royal Opera Houses's production of La Bohème, available on Opus Arte DVD andBlu-Ray.
Engagements during 2024 / 2025 include returns to The Royal Opera House, London, for further performances as Musetta La Bohème.
